PTE写作SWT提分小技巧——分号的秘密

　　在PTE的写作部分中，考生首先要面对的题型是Summarize written text，即总结摘要。

　　PTE写作考试中一般有2-3个摘要题，每题理论时间10分钟。在每个题目中，考生需要审阅概括一篇300-500字的小文章，并用一句话凝练。

　　Summarize written text主要考验的是:

　　阅读能力:考生需要在短时间内扫描长篇的文章，并理出逻辑脉络。

　　归纳能力:考生也需要有足够的遣词造句能力来把内容归纳为一句话。

　　千万要注意的事，一定只能用一句话，长度为5-75个字，如果超过字数是一定会被扣分的。

　　为了把所有内容都融入到一句话中，大家可以说是充分运用了语法知识，利用各种从句和连词。然而，有的同学语法没有那么扎实，一写长句就会遇到句子缺成分的问题，所以今天我们来看一看SWT的另一个解题方法——分号。

　　分号（Semicolon）的使用并不会像句号和逗号那么常见，但确实是一种标准的英语标点符号。一下是摘自《My Grammar and I》一书中对分号的定义：

　　Semicolon connects two or more independent clauses that don’t quite justify being sentences in their own right.

　　定义中说，分号是用来连接两个或多个独立句子的符号。一般用分号连接两句话时，句子之间的关系比用句号连接更为紧密。分号可以替代and或者but，例如：

　　I have tickets for Wimbledon tomorrow; I bet it rains.

　　I have tickets for Wimbledon tomorrow but I bet it rains. (but 用在这里比较生硬）

　　也可以用在副词连接词前面，接续副词后的半独立句子：

　　Everyone knows he is guilty of committing the crime; of course, it will never be proven.

　　Of these patients, 6 were not enrolled; thus, the cohort was composed of 141 patients at baseline.

　　使用分号时要注意一下两个法则：

　　分号的两侧都必须是完整的句子结构；

　　分号后面的单词要小写，除非是专有名词或日期。

　　下面给大家看一个比较有代表性的例子，出自著名大作家查理斯.狄更斯的《圣诞颂歌》

　　（Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol）

　　“There were pears and apples, clustered high in blooming pyramids; there were bunches of grapes, made, in the shopkeepers’ benevolence, to dangle from conspicuous hooks, that people’s mouths might water gratis as they passed; there were piles of filberts, mossy and brown, recalling, in their fragrance, ancient walks among the woods, and pleasant shufflings ankle deep through withered leaves; there were Norfolk Biffins, squat and swarthy, setting off the yellow of the oranges and lemons, and, in the great compactness of their juicy persons, urgently entreating and beseeching to be carried home in paper hags and eaten after dinner.” （99词）

　　伟大作家都能这么用，我们当然也可以。不过还是不提倡全文一路分号到底，大家可以使用and/but、从句和分号结合的方法来完成SWT。
