Scientific exploration towards the outer space is no longer impossible thanks to the advances of the technology. People hold conflicting views about whether to seek other intellectual creatures. Some believe that it is necessary to contact with them while others argue that it may bring us to a catastrophe. Personally, I preferthe former.

People who are against connecting other intelligent lives may believe that it may cause unpredictable lethal outcomes. It is true that we know little about the extraterrestrial intelligences’ intentions and capabilities, and it is almost impossible to predict whether they will be benign or hostile. Searching for planets that might have life like staring into a great abyss since we have no clear knowledge of the first form of life we discover. They might be greedy, exploitative and violent while searching somewhere to harvest for water, minerals and fuel.

However, getting in touch with the extraterrestrial lives also have potential benefits. Firstly, the frontier technological and scientific advances in space programs could be utilised in our daily lives. For instance, we are largely relying on the use of satellites to locate or provide us guidance. Secondly, if we can communicate with other life forms someday, we may have the chance to exchange ideas with them, and there is a great opportunity to make immense progress in modern technology by their inspiration. Therefore, many problems we are facing could be solved.

From a personally perspective, humans should not stop exploring the extraterrestrial lives regardlessofthe potential threats mainly because human beings are born curious about the world and universe, pursuing that curiosity is one of the reasons why mankind made such great achievements.
