　　Despite the claims of some scientists, we are now producing record levels of carbon dioxide, and there is no dispute about the connection between this and climate change. It is not an exaggeration to say that the effects of climate change are disastrous, which is almost certain to have long-term consequences for humanity such as the melting Polar ice cap, the extinction of important species, heat waves, and other extreme weather conditions.Hence, both individuals and the government should cooperate to tackle the climate change.

　　Firstly, The Government will play a significant role in addressing the problem. Measures could be taken to discourage pollution, such as limiting or taxing the use of fossil fuels. Alternatively,subsidies could be offered to industries to clean up their production processes. If these ideas were adopted, businesses wouldregard pollution as a financial issue. Furthermore, all countries should reach a global agreement on how to address the problem. The Kyoto agreement is a textbook example. Without such co-operating, efforts to reduce fuel consumption are unlikely to be effective.

　　Admittedly, an individual cannot make a great contribution to coping with climate change. Nevertheless, national and international policies will only succeed if individuals also change their lifestyle. Reducing food wastage is perhaps the way people can minimize their carbon footprint so as to help global warming. Additionally, Individuals can help force governments to actby taking part in legal protests against the continuing use of fossil fuels. If enough of uslobbied our members of parliament and other elected representatives, then they would have to bring in legislation.

　　In conclusion, I would maintain that only a combination of the international agreement, national policies, and changes in individual behavior would succeed in preventing further damage to the environment.
