　　PTE阅读有五种题型，包括Multiple-choice, choose single answer，Multiple-choice, choose multiple answers， Re-order paragraphs，Reading: Fill in the blanks，Reading & writing: Fill in the blanks，以及在口语部分为阅读贡献分数的Read Aloud、写作部分为阅读贡献分数的Summarize written text和在听力部分为阅读贡献分数的highlight correct summary以及highlight incorrect summary。

　　下面利用几个句子给各位说明白该如何划分句子意群，而不是只靠语法分析来获取主干信息。

　　I. That sex ratio will be favored which maximizes the number of descendants an individual will have and hence the number of gene copies transmitted.

　　II. Because paper of all kinds is the biggest single component of municipal trash, many municipalities have tried recycling to reduce the cost of trash disposal.

　　在讨论句子意群划分之前，我们先做几个定义:

　　句子分为简单句和复杂句，复杂句是由多个简单句构成的

　　多个简单句构成的复杂句间的关系一般有两种： 并列与从属关系

　　简单句间并列关系也好，从属关系也罢，都是需要一些元素来衔接的，能够衔接的元素我们认为有3种：

　　连词：and but or 等等

　　关系单词，关系副词： that which who where 等

　　句号，分号等表一个大意群结束的标点

　　以上三种最应该引起我们关注的是前两种，只有熟悉了前两种，才能对句子关系有一个迅速而清晰地把握。 我们以第一个句子为例来讲解：

　　That sex ratio will be favored which maximizes the number of descendants an individual will have and hence the number of gene copies transmitted.

　　在这个句子里面，我们可以看到来个两个我们上面提到的元素，分别是 which 和 and。

　　下面就要问自己，which 指代的是谁，我们能看出，其指代的是 sex ratio 即which这一小分句描述的是 sex ratio 的属性。 什么属性，我们将后一个句子补全：

　　which maximizes the number of descendants (that) an individual will have

　　实际上，这个从句里还藏了一个从句，因为that（指代 number of descendants ）在嵌套的从句里作宾语，所以被省略掉了。所以整个句子翻译过来就是：

　　sex ratio能够最最大化一个个体所能有的后代的数量。

　　后面的句子就好处理了，我来将整句话翻译完整：

　　一种性别比例会被偏好： 这种性别比率能够最大化一个个体所能有的后代数量，因此基因就被大量传播了。
