　　1. Q: What kind of thing make you laugh?

　　什么会让你笑?

　　Different people from different countries have a different sense of humour. I tend to laugh at situation humour rather than jokes. I laugh when the pompous get themselves into situations that they have created and cannot get out. I don’t find it funny when innocent people are humiliated or made figures of fun.

　　2. Q: Do you like making other people laugh? Why?/ Why not?

　　你喜欢逗人笑么?

　　I like to make people laugh and I tend to do it by describing situations where funny things happened as a result of my innocence or naivety or when I got the better of the pompous or selfrighteous. I think it is very important to be able to laugh at yourself and not take yourself too serious. Making people laugh in this way is a way of letting people share your life.

　　3. Q: Do you think it’s important for people to laugh? Why?/ Why not?

　　你认为笑重要么?

　　I think laughter is very important because it is a way of coming to terms with a variety of situations. It is also a way of releasing inner tension. Statistics have shown that people who are able to laugh at themselves cope with life much better. Laughter can also help to put worries into perspective.

　　4. Q: Is laughing the same as feeling happy, do you think? Why?/ Why not?

　　笑与感到快乐是一样的么?

　　Laughter is often a short-term response to a situation, whereas happiness is a more longterm thing. One can laugh at a situation for a few moments, but at the same time one can be very unhappy. One can also be happy without needing to laugh. A son or daughter has gained a good job(1) in a foreign country. You are happy because they have got what they were looking for and you share that happiness, yet, at the same time laughter here would be out of place — it would add nothing. You might be sad that they will be living far from you.
