In some countries the widespread use of internet has given people more freedom to work or study at home instead of traveling to work or college. Do the advantages outweigh disadvantages?

Nowadays, with the advance of technology, people have easy access to the Internet, which makes working or studying at home realizable. From my point of view, I believe the merits of this trend outweigh the demerits.

The first and most immediate concern that comes to people’s mind is that excessive exposure to computers is detrimental to people’s health. To be specific, for many people, for example, students, they may spend their leisure time playing computer games or watching TV and in this case, if they study at home through the internet, sitting in front of the screen for hours, it may give rise to a range of health problems like myopia and obesity.

However, there are more benefits. The most obvious advantage is saving time. The traffic is becoming increasingly crowded these days and it costs working people amounts of time on the road. If they can work at home, commuting will not be a problem and people can use the time saved to develop their personal interests, which can contribute to the well-being of individuals.

Apart from this, it is more flexible to work or study at home.

For students, instead of attending lectures and seminars at fixed time, they can download them from the internet and watch them whenever they have time and energy. For people in the workplace, they do not have to wear suits or high heels all day; they can wear casual and comfortable clothes when working.

In conclusion, although people may suffer from some illnesses, this problem can be remitted through some physical activities in the weekends and at the same time, working or studying at home does boost efficiency and brings convenience to both students and employees.
