When it comes to the issue of raising children, some people believe that there is a need for parents to read stories to their children, but others propose that children do not need parents since they can enjoy stories from other sources.

第二段，读书有利于维持关系

On one hand, sharing a story with children contributes to strengthening the relationship between parents and children. When children grow up, a lot of them may not get along well with their parents because there hardly exist interactions between them. However, if parents are willing to tell stories to their children closely since childhood, they can share happiness or sorrow together when reading stories. Then, children may not feel so isolated from their parents and the emotional tie can be maintained.

From my own perspective, these two opinions do not necessarily contradict each other and they are actually complementary. Parents need to admit that only reading books to children cannot meet their increasing demands in the current era. Correspondingly, parents should try to make better use of other sources and broaden children’s horizons by giving them more new stories. Meanwhile, it is also crucial for parents to accompany children when children read books since children may be too young to understand some hidden meanings of stories and parents can explain stories to children clearly.
