基础备考：AEIS考试中的熟词生义 （三）

大家要注意的是AEIS词汇题并不是简单的选取同义词，而是要选取能替换到阅读文本中、不引起句意变化的词。由此，想要保证词汇题正确率，被考察的词汇所在句子是一定要读懂的（这样才能知道被考察词汇的真正意思），同时选项带入后句意是没有变化的。

escape

熟义：逃跑

生义：1）忘记，记不起来

如：To be outside the memory or understanding of; fail to be remembered or understood by

Her name escapes me. 我想不起她的名字了。

2）（不自觉地）发出to be uttered involuntarily by

如：A sigh of relief escaped her. 她不自觉地舒了一口气。

explode

熟义：爆炸

生义：1）勃然大怒；大发雷霆

如：I'm about to explode! He broke my violin. 我要爆发了。他弄坏了我的小提琴。

2）激增

如：The population level in this area has exploded during the past 12 years. 过去12年里这个地区人口激增。

gesture

熟义：n. 手势

生义：n. 姿态，表示

如：a political gesture to draw popular support 一个意在笼络人心的政治举动

It is also sending you a cheque for 500 as a gesture of goodwill. 它还会给你一张500元的支票，以表诚意。

v. 做手势，用动作示意

如：He gestured to his partner to leave. 他用手势示意他的同伴离开。

high

熟义：高的

生义：1）紧要的，重要的

如：The Labour Party has not made the issue a high priority. 劳工党重视这件事。

Economic reform is high on the agenda. 经济改革迫在眉睫。

2）兴高彩烈的，兴奋的

如：Her spirits were high with the hope of seeing Nick in minutes. 想到过几分钟就可能见到尼克了，她就很激动。

By the end of concert the children are really high. 音乐会结束的时候，孩子们已经非常激动了。

inch

熟义：n. 英寸

生义：n. 1）少许，一点

如：The whole house is covered in an inch of dust. 整座房子都蒙了一层灰。

生义：虚构；编造

如：He invented an excuse for his being late. 他为迟到编造了一个理由。

launch

熟义：n. & v. 发射

生义：n. 发行，发布；开始

如：the launch of a new car 一种新车的上市

the launch of a campain开始一项运动

v. 1）开始，开展

如：The police have launched an investigation into the incident. 警察已经对这个事件展开了调查。

She's trying to launch a new career as a singer. 她试图开始新的歌手职业。

2）发布，发行，推出

如：The company is expected to launch several new products next year. 这家公司来年有望推出几款新产品。

3）使从事......；使投入

如：to launch oneself into work 投入到工作中

load

熟义：n. 重担，负荷；许多，大量 v. 装；装载

生义：n. 1）一车（一船、一飞机等）

如：The truck was carrying a full load of sand. 这辆卡车装了满满一卡车的沙子。

2）思想负担 something that weighs down the mind or spirits

took a load off her mind 减轻她的思想负担

3）工作量

his heavy load of day-to-day work 日复一复超大工作量

v. 1）大量给予

如：His grandma loaded him with money when he went to college. 他上大学时他奶奶给了他很多钱。

2）吃太多（up on）

如：Don't load up on rich diary products like butter and whole milk.

3）使充满，使摆满

如：a table loaded with food and drinks 一张摆满了食物和饮料的桌子

The novel is loaded with suspense. 这部小说充满了悬念。

4）给枪装上子弹

如：The gun was loaded with four bullets. 枪里装了死磕子弹。

【拓展】loaded adj. 装满的；含蓄的（话里有其他意思的）；有钱的；喝醉的

如：That sounds like a loaded question. 这个问题听起来另有所指。

We found him at a bar, heavily loaded. 我们在一家酒吧找到了他，喝得醉醺醺的。
