cross, across & through

【说词】

1.It took them a few weeks to cross the sea.

2.Can you swim across this river?

3.The sunshine comes in through the window.

【解语】

◆cross作动词，意为“越过；横过”，相当于go/walk across，如例句1。

◆across作介词，强调“通过某一平面”，如例句2。

◆through也作介词，强调“通过某一个三维空间”。如例句3。

【练习】

选用cross, across或through完成句子。

1.I lost my key, so I had to get into the room ____the window.

2.You must look both ways before you ____ the street.

【说词】

1.There is no such thing as a free lunch.

【解语】

◆such作限定词，可修饰名词，如例句1。

◆so作副词，可修饰形容词或副词，如例句2；当名词前有many, much, few, little等表示数量的词语时，只能用so来修饰它们，如例句3。

◆修饰单数可数名词时，可用“such + a / an + adj. +n.”结构或“so + adj. + a / an + n.”结构，如例句4；当名词是不可数名词或复数名词时，必须用“such + adj.+ n.”结构，如例句5。
