AEIS词汇记忆：容易混淆的同音异义单词

Affect/Effect

影响（名词）/ 影响（动词）

"Affect" is used to indicate influence while "effect" is a result or a consequence of an action.

"affect"用来指“影响”这个动作，而"effect"表示一个动作产生的结果或后果。

Examples例子:

The drugs had a negativeeffecton him.

药物对他产生了负面的影响。

Your attitude willaffecthow succesful you are.

你的态度将影响你会有多成功。

Than/Then

比...... / 然后

We use "than" for comparisons and "then" for passage of time or when something is.

我们在做比较的时候用“than”，用"then"表示一段时间的推移。

Examples 例子:

She is taller than him.

她比他高。

He picked up the keys then locked the door.

他捡起钥匙然后关上了门。

Write/Right

写 / 右边；正确

We use" write "for when you want to write something with a pen or a pencil, "right" is used for directions or when to say something is correct.

我们在用一支钢笔或铅笔写字的时候用“write”，"right"是用来指示方向，或者说某事是正确的。

Examples例子:

I need a pen towritethis down.

我要一支笔来把它写下来。

He'srightyou should take the job.

他是对的你应该接受这个工作。

Too/To/Two

也 / 到 / 二

"Too" is used for when something is excessive but can be used as another word for "also". "To" can be used as a preposition and "two" is a number!

"too"可以用在当某事太多了的时候，还可以表示“也”。“to”可以用作一个介词。“two”是一个数字！

Examples例子:

I think you have eatentoomuch.

我觉得你吃得太多了。

I'm goingtothe shop.

我要去商店。

Lily hastwopencils.

莉莉有两支铅笔。

There/Their/They're

那边 / 他们的 / 他们是

"There" can be used for different parts of speech depending on the context. It is usually used as a pronoun or a verb. "Their" is a pronoun and usually used when something belongs to someone. "They're" is a contraction of "They are".

根据前后文"there"可以在句子中作的不同成分。一般可作代词或者副词。"their"是一个代词，通常用来表示某物属于某人。"they're"是“they are”的缩写。

Examples 例子:

There will be a lot to eat at the party tonight (pronoun)

今晚的派对会有很多吃的。（代词）

Put the box over there (adverb)

把盒子放在那里（副词）

The students put their coats in the cupboard (pronoun)

学生们把他们的外套放在橱子里（代词）

They're going to eat ice cream today.

今天他们要去吃冰激凌。
