1. appraise / apprise
Appraise means “to set a value on something.” ;估价,定价
Apprise means “to inform”; 通知
The vintage designer sofar appraised at $13,500.
这件古董家具定价为 ¥13,500.
Have customers been fully apprised of the advantages?
客户有没有被充分告知各项好处呢?
2. aural / oral
The adjective aural relates to the ear or to hearing. 听觉的,耳的;
The adjective oral relates to the mouth or speaking. 口头的,口述的;
He became famous as an inventor of astonishing visual and aural effects.
他因创造了令人震撼的视听效果而出名。
the written and oral traditions of ancient cultures.
…古代文化的文字记载和口述传统。
3. bated / baited
bated means “in great suspense.” 屏住,压抑住
baited means “with bait attached,” 带诱饵的,
We listened with bated breath to Grandma’s stories of her travels.
我们屏住气听着外婆的旅行故事。
4. broach / brooch
Broach is a verb meaning “to open up.” 提出,打开话匣子
Brooch was used like a safety pin to fasten clothing together. 胸针
Eventually I broached the subject of her early life.
最后我提出她早年生活的话题。
Create a choker necklace using a narrow scarf and flashy brooch.
用围巾和闪亮的胸针做出的choker.
5.canvas / canvass
Canvas is a material for shoes, bag or clothes. 帆布
Canvass is to find out how people think about a certain thing. 咨询
a canvas bag, canvas shoes
…一个帆布包, 帆布鞋。
Members of Congress are spending the weekend canvassing opinion in their constituencies.
国会议员利用周末在各自的选区征求意见。
