City Appliance Relocation to Rural Areas (“household appliances go rural” program)

In December of 2008, the Chinese government announced a market-rescue plan in which home appliances were sent to rural areas. Its purpose was to alleviate the sharp export decrease in consumer electronics and to expand the domestic market by subsidizing non-permanent inhabitants of cities and towns when they purchased televisions, refrigerators, mobile phones, and washing machines.
